The Challenge of Being Consistent as a Creator

Being consistent as a content creator is a challenge many face. This blog post shares seven steps to help you be more consistent on YouTube and social media. With the right time management, idea generation, and optimization strategies, you can improve your consistency and build a stronger online presence.

The key to success that allowed me to reach over 100,000 subscribers on YouTube was that I made over 800 videos in 3 years. Based on a Case study from Tubebuddy in 2020 it typically takes over 500 videos for most creators to reach over 100,000 subscribers and on average it takes 5-7 years. There are of course exceptions to the rule and outliers.

Acknowledging the Working-Class Content Creator:

As a content creator who works a full-time job, it's important to recognize that you are part of a dedicated and hardworking community that faces unique challenges in pursuing your creative passion. Working 40 hours a week can be mentally and physically exhausting, and finding the energy and time to create content within the remaining 10-20 hours can feel daunting. It's essential to approach content creation with empathy for yourself and others in a similar position and to focus on strategies that make the most of your limited time.

Easier-to-Produce Formats:

When you're juggling a full-time job and content creation, it's crucial to consider formats that are easier to produce and less time-consuming. For example, consider creating short videos or podcasts that require minimal editing, or blog posts that can be written and published quickly. By focusing on these simpler formats, you can maintain consistency in your content creation without sacrificing quality or your personal life.

Consistency Over Spectacle:

While it may be tempting to try to create elaborate and over-the-top content to stand out, it's important to prioritize consistency when you have limited time. Your audience will appreciate regular content that is authentic and engaging, rather than sporadic, high-production value projects that may be difficult to sustain with a full-time job. Establishing a consistent posting schedule and creating content that resonates with your audience can help you build a loyal following without overextending yourself.

7 Steps to Consistency

  1. Time Management: As a working-class content creator, balancing work, family, and content creation can be difficult. To tackle time management, write down your daily schedule for each day of the week. Identify the activities you can cut out to make time for content creation. Use quiet times for filming, and do admin work and editing when you have more energy. Consider batch-recording videos during quiet periods to make the most of your available time.

  2. Idea Generation: Having a list of content ideas prepared in advance can help you stay consistent. Write down your ideas in a note-taking app, and make sure you have a mix of easy and complex ideas. This way, you can choose a suitable idea depending on your available time and energy. Use your lunch break or commute to think about content ideas.

  3. Optimize in Advance: Optimizing your content in advance can save you time and improve consistency. Focus on the topic, title, thumbnail, and timing. Use tools like TubeBuddy's SEO Studio to help with keyword research, tags, and optimization.

  4. Create a Content Calendar: A content calendar helps you plan and visualize your content schedule. This can make it easier to stay consistent and ensure you're posting regularly. Use a digital calendar or a spreadsheet to plan your content for the month.

  5. Batch Content Creation: Batching your content creation can save time and improve consistency. Plan a day or two to film, edit, and create multiple pieces of content. This allows you to have content ready to post even during busy periods.

  6. Repurpose Content: Repurposing content can save time and help you stay consistent across platforms. Turn a YouTube video into a blog post, Instagram post, or podcast episode. This allows you to create multiple pieces of content from a single idea, saving time and ensuring consistency.

  7. Accountability: Having an accountability partner or sharing your content goals with your audience can help you stay consistent. Knowing that others are expecting your content can motivate you to stay on track.

Consistency is crucial for content creators to build an audience and succeed on YouTube and social media platforms. By following these seven steps, you can improve your time management, generate ideas, optimize content, and maintain a consistent posting schedule.

This will help you grow your online presence and achieve your content creation goals.
